Webb’s DOK in Multilingual Classrooms: Planning for Academic Rigor and Language Development

Efforts to support language development may unintentionally lower the academic rigor of activities. This tips and dips session explores how Webb’s Depth of Knowledge (DOK) can help educators to support multilingual learners’ access to the cognitive complexity of grade-level academic standards while also supporting language development. Participants will examine the distinction between difficulty and complexity and address common misconceptions about DOK.
This session introduces Webb’s Depth of Knowledge (DOK) to evaluate cognitive complexity, address misconceptions, and apply it to teaching, curriculum, and assessment. Educators will learn strategies to integrate DOK into instructional practice.
