Virtual Workshops
In this workshop, participants explore how to intentionally integrate language development and proficiency standards with grade-level content standards to create more cohesive and effective instruction. They examine the relationship between language and content learning, gaining a deeper understanding of how explicit attention to language supports access to rigorous academic material. Through guided practice, participants apply this understanding by designing content-aligned unit sketches that intentionally embed opportunities for language development throughout instruction.
Participants identify and analyze effective strategies for incorporating language functions and features into daily lessons, ensuring that multilingual learners are not only engaging with content, but also actively developing the academic language needed to express their thinking. The workshop emphasizes practical tools for making language visible and accessible, including the creation of discourse-based anchor charts that support student participation in meaningful academic conversations.
Throughout the session, participants engage in collaborative planning and reflection, considering how to design instruction that promotes both content mastery and expressive language growth.
