At this year’s 8th annual symposium, more than 200 educators from 9 states came together to learn, connect, and strengthen their work with multilingual learners. The energy, collaboration, and ideas shared made this year’s symposium truly special.

Dual Language Symposium 2027 will be even bigger with more speaking opportunities, expanded session options, and deeper learning around the most in-demand topics in today’s evolving educational landscape.

Keynote speaker
Dr. Margo Gottlieb

Margo Gottlieb, Ph.D., has devoted her professional career to improving educational opportunities for multilingual learners, their teachers and other educational leaders. Over the years she has been a language teacher and coordinator, a bilingual facilitator, a director of assessment and evaluation, and a consultant to school districts, states, publishers, governments, universities, and organizations. Margo was a Fulbright senior specialist in assessment and evaluation and was recognized in 2016 by TESOL International Association’s 50@50 as an individual who has made a significant contribution to the TESOL profession within the past 50 years.

Having traveled extensively, Margo has presented in Asia, Central America, Europe, Indonesia, the Middle East, North America, the Pacific, Singapore and South America, as well as across the United States.

2026 – A Review in Images

The 2026 Dual Language Symposium was held at Roosevelt University in Schaumburg, IL. This year’s event brought together educators and colleagues to share fresh strategies for dual language success. It was an energizing way to close out February and look ahead to spring. In just one day, the presentations, discussions, and collaboration delivered an impressive amount of meaningful learning.

The success of the symposium lies in the educator community. By coming together to learn, reflect, and exchange ideas, we strengthen our classrooms and enhance student learning. Collaboration remains at the heart of this work, united by our shared commitment to supporting the students we serve.

Dual Language Symposium history

The Dual Language Symposium is an annual event hosted at Roosevelt University. In 2018, faculty and alumni from Roosevelt’s Dual Language Teacher Leadership MA program gathered to envision a conference that brings together the dual language community to support each other’s work as educators of language learners and advocates of bilingualism. With its inaugural event in 2019, the Dual Language Symposium features a keynote speaker, morning and afternoon breakout sessions, roundtable lunch, community performance, and vendors of multilingual materials. After the initial grant period concluded, Roosevelt partnered with WCEPS, a non-profit organization affiliated with the UW-Madison, to host the 2024 symposium and future events, aiming to sustain and expand this well-loved annual event, while staying loyal to its teacher-led roots.
