Long-Term English Learners Workshop

In this workshop, participants take a closer look at how to effectively support long-term Multilingual learners (LTELs) by examining the essential conditions needed to foster both academic success and positive learner identity. Through a series of interactive tasks and collaborative discussions, participants reflect on the beliefs, instructional practices, and labeling systems that can either support or hinder student growth. They analyze how these factors shape students’ experiences, engagement, and sense of belonging in the classroom.

Participants also explore research-based strategies to better meet the needs of LTELs, with a focus on intentionally developing and expanding students’ linguistic repertoires. Emphasis is placed on creating opportunities for meaningful language use, building on students’ existing strengths, and designing instruction that promotes both language development and content mastery.

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Implement practices that promote the success of LTELs
  • Describe how beliefs, actions, and labels affect student identity and academic achievement
  • Identify strategies to enhance LTELs’ linguistic repertoires
  • 7:00pm – 10:00pm US CT
  • $300
