Students working on writing skills in a classroom.

Writing Proficiency Workshop

In this workshop, participants explore a genre-based approach to literacy instruction, known as the Literacy Learning Cycle, which intentionally uses reading as a foundation for developing strong writing skills. Through this framework, educators learn how to guide students in analyzing the structure, language, and purpose of different text types, and then apply that understanding to their own writing.

Writing instruction is carefully scaffolded at each stage of the cycle, moving from building background knowledge and modeling, to joint construction and independent writing. This structured support enables Multilingual learners to develop confidence and control as writers, while deepening their comprehension of academic language. As a result, students become more effective, informed, and flexible writers who can successfully communicate across a wide range of content areas and disciplines.

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Engage students in drafting, reviewing, and revising
  • Share understanding of how students write knowledgeably
  • Use mentor texts to explore the purposes, organizational structures, and language features of specific genres
  • Plan for opportunities to deconstruct and reconstruct texts
  • Support students with their independent writing
  • 9:00am – 12:00pm US CT
  • 7:00pm – 10:00pm US CT
  • $300
