CARE Coaching Needs Assessment (CCNA)

The CCNA assessment activity focuses on multilingual learner support, while also covering broader practices that affect all students. This evidence-based tool measures key aspects of school-wide leadership practices that impact instruction. Through the CARE Coaching data process, school teams leverage the resulting action-based data to target improvement areas, identify professional learning needs, and create action-oriented improvement plans.

Traditional climate surveys capture perceptions including how people feel about culture and environment. That’s important, but not always enough to guide instructional decisions. Educators need data that is task-oriented so that they can spend their time addressing needs rather than speculating what needs to be done for improvement.

Surveys focused on specific individuals all reveal a fraction of the leadership story in schools. Leadership is not confined to one individual. By focusing on the leadership work across a school, the CCNA is capturing school-wide practices carried out by all educators and leaders in a given school.

The CARE Coaching Needs Assessment focuses on what your team is doing and what they can do next to improve teaching and learning. It also integrates content on multilingual learners alongside general instructional practices, so you don’t need separate tools.

Through the CARE Coaching process, after school teams have identified their needs, developed an action plan based on the specific areas identified within the CCNA report, and implemented the plan, they can re-assess those target areas after a given time (30, 60, or 90 days, for example). The system can create an individualized assessment of the target areas for ongoing improvement work.

Many schools are compelled to assess their needs, conduct a survey, and develop an improvement plan. Rather than check those tasks off a to-do list, school leaders can take advantage of an opportunity to engage in a needs assessment by implementing one that checks the boxes AND supports their work as leaders, indicates how best to support educators, and ultimately works to enhance student learning.

Whether you’re refining coaching plans, improving instruction, or strengthening support for multilingual learners, the CARE Coaching Needs Assessment provides the insight and clarity you need.
