Overview

Participants will explore the integrated components of the 2020 WIDA ELD Standards Framework and apply them by designing content-aligned unit sketches. Participants will identify effective strategies for embedding language functions and features into grade-level instruction and create discourse-based anchor charts to support multilingual learners’ expressive language development across content areas.

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

Examine the interconnectedness of the 2020 WIDA Standards Framework components.
Design a unit sketch to map ELD standards framework components to content-area instruction
Explore ways to implement instruction of language functions and features within grade-level content lessons.
Create a discourse anchor chart for a content-area expressive language task
