Translanguaging Workshops


Participants examine translanguaging as both a language practice and a pedagogical approach that affirms the full linguistic repertoires of bi- and multilingual learners. Drawing from the Translanguaging Classroom Framework, participants explore how stance, design, and instructional shifts can create inclusive learning environments that support biliteracy and elevate student identity. Through interactive discussions, classroom vignettes, and practical design tasks, participants learn to intentionally incorporate translanguaging to enhance meaning-making, engagement, and equity in dual language and multilingual settings.

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain translanguaging as a dynamic and asset-based practice that supports bi- and multilingual students’ language development and content learning
  • Apply the stance, design, and shift components of the translanguaging Classroom Framework to plan instruction
  • Design translanguaging strategies that foster biliteracy, academic identity, and classroom equity across content areas
  • Integrate culturally and linguistically responsive activities that affirm students’ full language practices and lived experiences
  • Reflect on their own linguistic assumptions and teaching practices to cultivate a more inclusive and justice-oriented classroom environment
